hey there..my lil fiona was born with that. her esophagus was attached to her trachea so they had to detach and reattached it to her stomach. praise God no further stretching was needed. she's been on compounded previcid 1mil twice a day for the acid reflux that comes with this. at first it was too low of a dose -she was crying and arching herself for HOURS!! so after increasing it she was much better. she didn't eat much because they usually need smaller amounts more often..she would eat for maybe 5 min at a time. we decided i would quit my job as a preschool teacher & stay home for the 1st year because the surgeon at Childrens hospital fresno said these children are more susceptible to getting colds that could be worse for them than your average baby & end up back in the hosptial. breast milk is really needed for them! fi is 8 months and doing great,,shes no where near as big as her baby peers,,shes 16.5 pounds but she's great. she has a small part in her esophagus that is still narrow so fluids take longer to get down-we learned that from the esophagram. but the surgeon said she should out grow that..as well has her bark cough..she sounds like she as croup though it's just her cough. we have to be careful of choking in foods she eats b/c of the narrow passage so she's still on purees. we will be praying for your family and the journey ahead. its totally worth you..you do get baby amnesia..were planning on trying for another one when fi is done breastfeeding. my email is savdbylove@hotmail.com if your wife wants to talk!
